Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

O vulation is the process of release of a mature egg (female gamete) from the ovary of the female reproductive system and occurs once every month.

In response to a hormonal signal, the follicle (holding the egg) bursts open and frees the egg - this is when a female ovulates. Ovulation typically occurs around 14 days from the first day of the female's last menstruation cycle. Once a female ovulates, the ovum (egg) travels into the fallopian tube and is ready for fertilization by a sperm. A female is most fertile during ovulation phase.
