Dear student,
The walls of mature fruit (ripened ovary) is called pericarp. Pericarp is made up of three layers -
1) Epicarp (outer layer)
ā2) Mesocarp (middle layer)
3) Endocarp ( inner layer)
Functions -
Pericarp protects the developing embryo from adverse condition and maintains a micro-climate for its development.
Pericarp act as anabolism centre in the fruits by accumulating starch and amides that are degraded and transferred into the seeds.
Regards.
