Periodization is the survey of past categorization into discrete quantified called time blocks to promote historical study & research.

Three age system

• In archaeology, the traditional way of periodizing the distant prehistoric past is to focus on modifications in material technology and culture, including the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age, and their subdivisions often depending on multiple styles of materials remains.
• Despite the advancement over recent decades of the capacity to provide actual dates for several sites or artefacts by radiocarbon dating as well as other scientific theories, such long-established schemes continue to remain in use.
• Neighbouring cultures of writing have also left without it any background of cultures that can be used.

An issue with the periodization of Indian history that James Mill gave

• James mill separated Indian history into periods of Hinduism Muslim and British.
• Such periodization is based on the religious line that there was a face. Through which the Hindu ruled the rulers as well as other function.
• Then came Muslims and British periods, i.e. Christians. He had a colonial mind and felt that Asians had not intelligent very well. He had thought that Europeans were superior.
• He attempted to separate people with their unique identification through this periodization, that was not right.
• There were thousands of royal Hindu and Muslim states during the Muslim and British times.

The issue was that it is not possible for only Hindu rulers to rule in the Hindu era and only Muslim rulers to rule in the Islamic period. Only a British ruler to lead in the British era.
