Illegal hunting of animals for their body parts is called as poaching. Animals are poached for the following reasons:
(i) Some of the body parts of animals such as bones of tigers and horns of the rhinoceros are used in traditional medicine practises. To get these, the animals are hunted illegally.
(ii) Hard body parts of some animals such as ivory of Asian elephants and shells of turtles, are used in making jewellery which have a great monetary value.
(iii) To obtain the fur and hides, some animals like deer and snakes are hunted.
