Question

What is R for water?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Ideal gas law: The law establishes the relationship between the pressure, volume, temperature, and a number of moles.
  2. According to this law the pressure is directly dependent on the number of moles and temperature whereas inversely proportional to the volume.
  3. This can be understood with mathematical expression as follows:
PVnT; where P is the pressure, V is the volume n will be the number of moles and T is the temperature.
  4. The removal of the proportional sign introduces a new constant called the universal gas constant, then the equation becomes: PV=nRT.
  5. R can also be an individual gas constant and therefore it has a specific value for different compounds.
  6. The value of "R" for water is 0.4615KiloJoulesKilogramKelvin
