Solution

Salt

  • Salts are substances created by reacting an acid with a base.
  • The formation of salt from an acid and a base is known as neutralization.
  • Examples of salts: Sodium chloride NaCl, and Calcium chlorideCaCl2.

Chemical reaction

  • The chemical reaction is as follows-

H+Cl-(aq)+Na+OH-(aq)Na+Cl-(aq)+H2O(l)AcidBaseSaltWater

Salt Preparation by Precipitation Method

  • Insoluble salts can be prepared by precipitation reactions.
  • For example: When Barium chloride BaCl2 reacts with sulfuric acid H2SO4, it results in the formation of Barium sulfate BaSO4 and Hydrochloric acid HCl.
  • In this case, Barium sulfate BaSO4 is an insoluble salt.

Chemical reaction

  • The chemical reaction is as follows:

BaCl2(aq)+H2SO4(aq)BaSO4+2HCl(aq)
