Question

What is sludge? Explain how it is treated.

Open in App
Solution

Sludge is a semi-solid wastes like faeces that settle to the bottom during wastewater treatment

It is treated by using a scraper.

The scraper is used to remove the sludge, which is then transferred to a separate tank where anaerobic bacteria degrade it to produce biogas.

This biogas can be utilised for cooking, heating, and other purposes.
