Solution
Emphysema:
Smoking can cause chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
One such disease is Emphysema.
In Emphysema, bronchioles in the lungs enlarge and result in the alveoli becoming non-elastic which makes the air reside in it even after exhalation.
It also causes irreversible distension of parts of the lungs such as bronchioles and alveoli.
Emphysema is the condition in which due to inflammation in the alveoli the surface area for air absorption and gaseous exchange reduces, thus impacting the overall health of an organism.
