Chloroplasts are green-colored plastids present in plant cells that are responsible for photosynthesis (the process by which light energy is converted into chemical energy). They contain a photosynthetic pigment known as chlorophyll.
The chloroplasts are composed of lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, enzymes, and metallic atoms such as Fe (Iron), Cu (Copper), Zn (zinc), and Mn (Manganese).
20-30% of the weight of chloroplasts is made up of lipids.
Chlorophyll is the green pigment that contains the metallic atoms of iron and magnesium.
