What is the difference between active and passive transport?
Active transport:
The movement of molecules and ions against the concentration gradient with the help of carrier protein is known as active transport.
Passive transport:
The transport process in which molecules and atoms move along the concentration gradient without the use of metabolic energy is known as passive transport.
ACTIVE TRANSPORT | PASSIVE TRANSPORT |
It uses energy to transfer the molecules across the membrane. | It does not use energy to transport molecules across the membrane. |
This transport works against the concentration gradient. | This transport system works along with the concentration gradient. |
It is two types: primary active transport and secondary active transport. | It is of two types: simple diffusion and facilitated diffusion. |
