Question

What is the difference between active and passive transport?

Open in App
Solution

Active transport:

The movement of molecules and ions against the concentration gradient with the help of carrier protein is known as active transport.

Passive transport:

The transport process in which molecules and atoms move along the concentration gradient without the use of metabolic energy is known as passive transport.

ACTIVE TRANSPORTPASSIVE TRANSPORT
It uses energy to transfer the molecules across the membrane. It does not use energy to transport molecules across the membrane.
This transport works against the concentration gradient. This transport system works along with the concentration gradient.
It is two types: primary active transport and secondary active transport. It is of two types: simple diffusion and facilitated diffusion.
