Solution

Charge

Oxidation number

A charge is the total electrical charge present on an atom.Oxidation number is defined as the total number of electrons lost or gain during bond formation with another atom.
With the help of charge, we can easily identify the number of electrons and protons in an atom. With the help of oxidation numbers we can easily identify the loss or gain of electrons by the atom.
The number of electrons and protons of an atom will signify the charge of an atom. The surrounding atom will signify the oxidation number and hence a single element can have different oxidation number.
It can be written in Hindu-Arabic form with a positive and negative signs. It can be written in Roman number with brackets.
