Question

What is the difference between diffusion current and drift current?

Open in App
Solution

Diffusion current

Drift current

1. This current is usually observed in the junction diodes or semiconductor devices.1. This can be found in all the conducting materials where the current flows as the flow of electrons.
2. Due to the concentration gradient across p and n side the current in the biased circuit flows from p type to n type which is called the diffusion current.2. Due to the flow of charge carriers inside the diode, the current produced is due to the presence of the electric field.
3. The amount of charge decreases due to distribution of charges.3. The amount of charge remains constant.
