What is the difference between fluids and liquids

A Fluid is a substance which offers no resistance to shear deformation and will continue to deform when subjected to shear force. Example of fluids are water, oil, air, gases and vapours etc. Fluids may be classified into two categories :

a) LIQUIDS

b) GASES including vapours.

Liquid occupy a definite volume and are not affected appreciably by compression or the change in temperature. Water is an example of liquid.

All liquids are fluids but not all fluids are liquids .
