Question

What is the difference between lens and mirror?

Open in App
Solution

Both Lens and Mirror are optical devices operating on light and are used to change the path of light to produce the desired effect, either by converging them to a common point or diverging them away from a point

There are few differences between them.

The differences are:
  • Mirrors work on the principle of reflection whereas Lens work on the principle of refraction
  • Mirrors are coated with non-reflective material on one side, whereas no polishing is done for Lenses
  • A perfect mirror reflects 100% of light incident on it whereas a perfect lens refracts 100% of light passing through them
  • There are two types of mirrors whereas there are six types of lenses
