A motion which repeats itself at regular intervals of time is called a periodic motion.
example: the orbital motion of the Moon around the Earth, the swinging motion of a pendulum in a old clock, the back-and-forth motion of a piston in an automobile engine, the vibration of a guitar string.
A motion which repeats itself, but not at regular intervals of time, is called a non-periodic motion.
example:
Like dropping a pen, or a car moving along a road.
