Question

What is the digestive process in order?

Open in App
Solution

Digestion:

  1. It is described as the process of breaking down big, insoluble molecules of food into smaller, water-soluble molecules that may subsequently be easily absorbed by the body.
  2. The organ systems that execute this physiological process comprise the digestive system.

Order of digestive process:

  1. This operation begins in the mouth and proceeds via the stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.
  2. A human digestive system is a group of organs that work together to convert food into energy for the body.
  3. The digestive system consists of the gastrointestinal tract as well as auxiliary organs such as the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder.
  4. The gastrointestinal system is made up of hollow organs such as the mouth, stomach, esophagus, small intestine, and large intestine, which contain the rectum and anus (GI tract).
  5. Many digestive fluids and enzymes, including saliva, mucus, bile, and hydrochloric acid, are employed in this process.

The process of digestion is as follows:

  1. Ingestion: The digestive system's initial activity is to take in food through the mouth. This step, known as ingestion, must occur before anything further may occur.
  2. Mixing and movement: The mixing action ensures that the chyme is constantly mixed so that the complete volume of nutritionally relevant components is exposed to enzymes and comes into touch with the gut lining to be absorbed.
  3. Secretion: The gastric chyme that is discharged into the duodenum contains gastric secretions that will continue their digestive activities in the small intestine for a short period of time.
  4. Digestion: The process of breaking down big, insoluble molecules of food into smaller, water-soluble molecules that may subsequently be easily absorbed by the body.
  5. Absorption: The simple molecules produced by chemical digestion penetrate past the cell membranes of the small intestinal lining into the blood or lymph capillaries. This is known as absorption.
  6. Excretion: Food molecules that are unable to be digested or absorbed must be removed from the body. Excretion or elimination is the evacuation of indigestible wastes through the anus in the form of feces.
