Question
What is the effect of dilution on degree of dissociation of weak electrolyte ?
Open in App
Solution
In weak electrolyte the ions are partially ionized.
So on dilution the intermolecular attraction forces between the undissociated ions decreases.
Due to which number of dissociated ions increases, resulting in increase in the degree of dissociation of weak electrolyte.
The degree of dissociation of weak electrolyte is directly proportional to the square root of dilution.
