Solution

Receptors:

  1. Receptors are protein-based chemical structures that receive and transmit signals and can be incorporated into biological systems.
  2. These are found in all parts of the body, for example, skin is composed of many types of receptors such as mechanoreceptors, and thermoreceptors.
  3. They can start a signaling cascade, or chemical reaction, that causes cell division, growth, and death.
  4. Any damage or abnormality in the receptors can lead to irresponsive to the stimuli which can lead to dangerous conditions for the body.

Abnormal functioning of receptors:

  1. Receptors can be damaged for a limited time or permanently based on the incoming stimuli.
  2. For example, Skin burns can cause the skin receptors to not respond to the touch stimuli, as the skin is desensitized.
  3. Permanent damage or temporary damage depends on the duration of exposure to the burn.
