The hormones which are produced by the pituitary gland are known as regulating hormones.
The pituitary gland produces regulating hormones that stimulate other endocrine glands such as the thyroid, pancreas, adrenal and gonads to secrete their hormones.
Thyroid gland: It secretes the thyroxine hormone that regulates the basal metabolic rate(BMR) of the body and promotes normal growth of the body.
Pancreas: It produces two hormones, namely insulin and glucagon. Insulin decreases the blood sugar level in the blood whereas glucagon increases the blood sugar level.
Adrenal gland: It produces the hormone adrenaline which prepares the body to face an emergency situation, violent stress etc.
Gonads: The male gonad(testes) and the female gonad(ovary) produces sex hormones responsible for the development of secondary sexual characteristics of an individual.
