Testes-Structure and location:

  1. The paired oval-shaped male reproductive organs that are developed in the abdominal cavity adjacent to the kidneys are called testes or testicles.
  2. After development the testes descend into the scrotum which is a sac-like structure enclosing the testes.
  3. The fibrous tissue capsule which covers the testes provides protection to it

Function:

  1. The testes produce the male reproductive cells called sperm cells hence they are known as the primary sex organs or primary gonads.
  2. They are also involved in the production of the male sex hormones which include androgen and testosterone.
