Fallopian tube:

  1. The fallopian tube is part of the female reproductive system in humans.
  2. These are muscular tubes that lie upon the reproductive organs in the abdomen of a female.
  3. They occur in two numbers, one on each side of the body.
  4. The open ends of the fallopian tubes lie very near the ovaries but they are not directly attached.
  5. The fallopian tube is divided into three sections: isthmus, ampulla, and infundibulum.
  6. It is at this site fertilization of sperm and egg occurs.

Functions of the fallopian tube:

  1. It aids in the delivery of sperm to the egg.
  2. It aids in the passage of a fertilized egg into the uterus.
