What is the fungi life cycle?

Solution

Fungi life cycle:

  1. Fungi either reproduce sexually or asexually depending upon the type of fungi.
  2. In sexual reproduction, the cycle has a spore phase as an initial stage where the haploid spores germinate and form mycelium in favorable conditions.
  3. The diploid mycelium develops and combines with other compatible fungi i.e., cell from each mycelium fungi fuses to form dikaryotic mycelium.
  4. It later undergoes karyogamy and forms diploid nuclei.
  5. The next process is meiosis where a single cell splits into two and the genetic material is a mixture from both the parents.
  6. These daughter cells are unidentical to the parent cells.
  7. The haploid spores again give rise to mycelium.
