ruqaiya's diagram is nice.. The growth curve is called as sigmoid growth curve. The first stage is flat where there is no growth and organism adapts to new environment. It is called as lag phase. The second stage is where resources are unlimited and growth is logarithmic. It is called as log phase. The third phase is plateau phase, where the growth is stopped due to limited resources. the fourth phase is decline phase where the cells start to die..
