Question

What is the importance of an FIR?

Open in App
Solution

First Information Report or the FIR is the written complaint lodged with the police. The police prepares this written document based on the information received from the victim or any one else on behalf of the victim.
It is important because it is only after the FIR is lodged that the police can investigate a case. The police can refuse to investigate a case even after an FIR has been filed if the case is not serious.
