Importance of chromosomes:

  3. Chromosomes allow DNA to be accurately copied during these cell divisions.
  4. The organism's DNA is contained within the chromosome as a long series of nucleotides that are organized into genes and help to inherit the characters of parents to their offspring.
  5. Chromosomes pass this information to the next generation, i.e. from parents to offspring.
