Question

What Is The Importance Of The Replication Process?

Open in App
Solution

Replication:

  1. During cell division, DNA replication is the process of making a duplicate copy of itself.
  2. It takes place during the S or synthesis phase of the cell cycle.

Importance of DNA replication:

  1. DNA contains the information necessary for the production of the synthesis of proteins and enzymes necessary for cell survival.
  2. DNA replication results in the making of another copy of the DNA that is transferred to a newly formed cell.
  3. If DNA is not replicated, daughter cells lack the vital protein synthesis machinery needed for survival, which can lead to serious complications.
  4. Due to DNA replication, the diploid state of prokaryotic cells is maintained.
  5. DNA is responsible for transferring genetic material from one generation to another.
  6. During DNA replication, the formation of small changes takes place.
  7. These errors lead to mutations.
  8. This forms the basis for evolution and diversity to be formed.
  9. During DNA replication, a similar copy of DNA is formed with slight mutations.
  10. The maintenance of the uniqueness of this species and a little mutation makes it unique for this individual organism.
  11. DNA can be duplicated by three types of processes: dispersive, conservative, and semi-conservative.
  12. The most accepted pathway is semi-conservative DNA replication
