Intermolecular space:
The space between the atoms/molecules of the matter is known as Intermolecular space.
The intermolecular spaces between solid particles are minimum while in gases, there are maximum intermolecular spaces.
Solid:
In solid, the atoms are tightly packed because of strong intermolecular forces, so the intermolecular spaces are negligible.
Examples are books, wood, etc.
Liquid:
In liquid, the molecules are closely packed due to weak intermolecular forces. These forces are weaker than solids but stronger than gases. So, the intermolecular spaces are more than that of solids but less than gases.
Examples are alcohol, water, etc.
Gas:
In gases, the particles are far apart from each other and the force of attraction between the particles is negligible. So, the intermolecular spaces are maximum and the particles can move freely.
