Chronic kidney disease happens due to damaging of kidneys. It can be damaged due to any physical injury or diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure.

There are 5 stages of Chronic kidney disease.

  • Damage in stages 1 and 2 is very mild.
  • During stage 3, half of the kidney got damaged and thus effecting its function.Treatment at this stage can prevent one from other diseases.
  • At stage 4, severe kidney damage has happened. At this stage, it is very important to slow the loss of kidney function by following the treatment plan, and managing other problems like high blood pressure or heart disease.
  • Stage 5 is kidney failure. The only way of treatment of kidney failure is transplantation or dialysis.

Life expectancy of an individual with stage 4 kidney disease depends on their current age and gender. For instance, males with stage 4 kidney disease have an average life expectancy of 14 years while women of the same age group will have an average life expectancy of 16 years.
