Joint Forest Management Concept was introduced by the Government of India with the objective of involving local community in forest management. In the past, it was observed that when the local people were excluded from forest management; they felt alienated. This was because they were robbed off their traditional rights on forests. This resulted in clash of interests between the government and the local people and the conservation efforts did not bear results. Involvement of local community produced better results in terms of conservation in a sustainable manner.
