  1. Starch is the main storage carbohydrate of plants.
  2. It is a homopolysaccharide mainly found in plants to store food.
  3. Starch is a polymer of alpha D glucose units.
  4. Plants contain two types of starch Amylose and amylopectin.
  5. Amylose starch contains about 200- 300 glucose units linked with alpha 1-4 linkage.
  6. Amylopectin starch is a branched chain of 30 glucose units linked with alpha 1-4 linkage and alpha 1-6 linkage.
  7. The starch in plants is collected in the storage structures called amyloplasts.
