Carbon (C)

Solution

Mass number — total mass of nucleons is considered as the mass number of the atom

  • mass number = mass of protons + mass of neutrons

Atomic number — total number of electrons or total number of protons is known as its atomic number

  • Atomic number = total number of electrons or total number of protons

Neutron — it is chargeless sub-atomic particles

  • it is denoted by n and present in the nucleus
  • total number of neutrons [n] = Mass number[ A] – Atomic number [ Z ]

Protons — it is +ve charge of the atom

  • present in the nucleus
  • total number of protons = atomic number of its element

Electron – it is a -ve charge of the atom

  • it is revolving around the nucleus in the orbit
  • total number of the electron = Atomic number of its element

Electronic configuration — The distribution of an electron in the shell or orbit is known as electronic configuration

  • it also helps to predict whether the element is a metal,non-metal, metalloid and noble gas
  • Electronic configuration of the carbon atom is as follows
  • C612= 2,4

Thus, the mass number is 12, atomic number is 6, the total number of neutrons is 6, the total number of a proton is 6, the total number of electrons is 6, and make electronic configuration is 2,4.
