Sclereids:

  1. Sclereids are dead cells that are irregular in shape.
  2. These are found in the parts of the plants like the cortex, pith, phloem, etc.
  3. There are three types of Sclereids namely brachy-sclereids, macro-sclereids and osteo-sclereids.
  4. Brachy-sclereids are isodiametric(equal size in all directions) cells.
  5. Macro-sclereids are usually rod-shaped and elongated sclereids.
  6. Osteo-sclereids are also rod-shaped sclereids with dilated or wider ends.
  7. Sclereids are also known as grit stones and stone cells.
