Question

What is the partial equation method of balancing chemical equations?

Open in App
Solution

When there are a large number of reactants and products involved in a chemical equation, the “hit and trial” method becomes difficult to apply. Hence, the partial equation method is used in that case.

In the partial equation method following steps are followed:

  1. The overall reaction is assumed to take place through two or more simpler reaction.
  2. Each simple equation can be written separately and is then balanced by using the “hit and trial” method.
  3. These small equations are then added to make the entire equation.
