What is the pathogenesis of AIDS virus? 5 marks

Open in App
Solution

Pathogenesis is the development of diseases or events leading to the disease. HIV virus enters into the host cells and binds itself to a receptor (T cells CD4) and releases itsRNA into the host cell. It undergoes reverse transcription and converts it's RNA into double stranded DNA. HIV DNA( provirus) uses an enzyme to create it's copies forming long protein chains. These new units forces out ' buds ' from host cell and envelopes it. Then the affected host cell goes out to infect other cells.
