Solution

Mosses:

  1. They are the non-vascular and flowerless plants that come under the division of Bryophyta.
  2. They are found in the shady location of the world
  3. From an ecological point of view, moss breaks down exposed substrates and releases nutrients for the subsequent use of more complex plants.
  4. They also provide a surface coating and help protect against soil erosion by absorbing water and are important in some vegetation-type nutrients and water management.

Two stages of The Life cycle of Mosses:

  1. There are two life stages that Moses goes through, the first stage is haploid, and the second is diploid. Both are multicellular.
  2. Haploid has male and female plants and reproduces sexually while diploid has only one sporangium which reproduces asexually.
  3. This change between haploid and diploid is termed the alternation of generations
  4. Gametophytic: It refers to all organs and tissues that are part of the haploid generation.
  5. Gametophytes have two different stages of development: protonema and gametophytes.
  6. Sporophytic: The sporangium is the body of the sporophyte and is the organ from which spores are produced which on germination develop into a gametophyte

The predominant stage of the life cycle of a moss is the gametophyte phase.

  1. This is a haploid in nature.
  2. It comprises mainly two stages – the protonema stage and the leafy stage.
