Question

What is the principle of interference?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The principle of interference states that the wave produced by the interference of two waves creates a new wave that may have a different amplitude (smaller or greater or even the same).
  2. If the waves meet in phase then it is said to be constructive interference and the new amplitude is the sum of amplitude of the two waves.
  3. If the waves meet in opposite phase then it is said to be destructive interference and the new amplitude is the difference of amplitude of the two waves.
