Question

What is the procedure or correct formula for finding the molar mass of air if %by volume of oxygen and nitrogen gas is given to be4:1

Open in App
Solution

% volume of oxygen and nitrogen is 4:1

So oxygen is 4 times higher than nitrogen.

Molecular mass of oxygen=16

Molecular mass of nitrogen = 14

Total mass of oxygen=(4/5)×16 =12.8

Total mass of nitrogen=(1/5)×14 = 2.8

So total mass of air = 15.6

So molar mass of given air = 15.6
