MUAC:

  1. MUAC stands for Mid-Upper Arm Circumference.
  2. It's a screening tool for adults and children to assess and determine their nutritional status.
  3. On a straight left arm, midway between the tip of the shoulder and the tip of the elbow, it is measured.
  4. It is often used in children aged 6 to 59 months, as well as pregnant women, to detect acute malnutrition.
  5. It is used to measure the circumference of a child's upper arm, as well as a pregnant woman's, to aid in the detection of malnutrition
  6. MUAC is indicated for use with children aged six to fifty-nine months, as well as assessing acute energy insufficiency in adults during times of famine.
