On 20 June, 1789 CE, the middle class leaders of France assembled in the hall of an indoor tennis court in the grounds of Versailles under the leadership of Mirabeau, Abbe sieyes and Bailly. They declared themselves as a National Assembly and started drafting a Constitution for France.
They wanted to limit the powers of the monarch. their privileges. The National Assembly completed the draft of the Constitution in 1791 CE.
The Constitution of 1791 CE gave the National Assembly the power to make laws. The powers of the Monarch were now separated and given to different institutions - the legislature, executive and judiciary. This made France a constitutional monarchy.
