  2. Fractionating column: The fractions of liquids in a mixture are separated from each other by using an apparatus called the fractionating column.
  • A fractionating column is a long, vertical glass tube packed with glass beads.
  • The large surface area allows hot vapours to cool and condense.
  • In general, a fractionating column is referred to as an arrangement that has different temperature zones within it.
  • The lowest and highest temperature zones are located at the bottom and top of the column, respectively.
