Solution

Dear student

Southern Blotting is a technique that can be used to detect the locations of genes and other DNA sequences on restriction fragments separated by gel electrophoresis. This technique is discovered by the Edwin Southern.
The main feature of this process is the transfer of the DNA molecules which we have separated through gel electrophoresis onto nitrocellulose or nylon membranes.
It carried out by following steps:
1. Cleavage:
2.electrophoresis
3. Blotting

4. Hybridzation
5.Autoradiography

Role in DNA Fingerprinting

It is Used in DNA Fingerprinting to detect minute quantities of DNA ( basically to detect Parenthood, thieves, rapists etc.)
