What is the use of the lever, if its mechanical advantage is less than 1?
To obtain the gain in speed
For Class I levers, the mechanical advantage can have any value either greater than 1, equal to 1 or less than 1.
MA of a lever =Effort armLoad arm
If Effort arm < load arm, then M.A < 1 as well as V.R <1.
When mechanical advantage is less than 1, it is used to obtain the gain in speed because the velocity ratio less than 1 implies that the displacement of the load is more than that displacement of effort.
