Question

What is the weakest kind of bond?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Chemical bonds are formed for completing the valence shell of electrons by adjoining the atoms or groups of the atom.
  2. Hydrogen bonds are the type of chemical bonds that are formed between a Hydrogen atom and an electronegative atom.
  3. The highly electronegative elements attract the highly electropositive elements to combine.
  4. The negative end of the atom attracts the positive end of other atoms and thereby forming the weakest bond.
  5. Hydrogen bonds are polar and the more the electronegativity more will be the polarization of the molecules.
  6. The size of the electronegative atom must be small because the smaller the size greater the electrostatic force of attraction.
  7. Hydrogen bonding can be seen with OxygenO, FluorineF, NitrogenN
  8. Example: AmmoniaNH3, Hydrogen FluorideHF, a Water moleculeH2O
  9. Therefore, the Hydrogen bond is weakest.
