What is thermal energy. How is it obtained?

Energy in the form of heat is called thermal energy. It is generated and measured in the form of heat. Motion of molecules with speed and collision with other each other causes heat in a substance.
Thermal power can be obtained from a thermal power station. Heat energy is converted to electric power in a thermal power station.
In a thermal power station fuel such as coal, oil or gas is burnt in a furnace to produce heat-chemical to heat energy, this heat is used to change water into steam in the boiler.
This drives the generator to produce electricity-kinetic to electrical energy.
