Resistance of $AF$ and $FE$ are in series. so total $=2+2=4\Omega$

Now it is in parallel with $AE\left(4\Omega \right)$.

So, effective resistance between $A$ and $E$ is $\frac{1}{\frac{1}{4}+\frac{1}{4}}=\frac{1}{\frac{2}{4}}=\frac{4}{2}=2\Omega$

Now it is series with $ED\left(2\Omega \right)$.So total $=4\Omega$ which in parallel with $AD\left(4\Omega \right)$.So effective between $A$ and $D$ is $2\Omega$.
