What kind of microorganisms are there in nitrogen fixation?

Open in App
Solution

Nitrogen fixation:

  1. Nitrogen fixation is a biological process.
  2. The atmospheric nitrogen is converted into ammonia which is another form of nitrogen by certain bacterial species like Rhizobium, Azotobacter etc or by other natural phenomena.

Microorganism in nitrogen fixation:

  1. There are several heterotrophic bacteria found in the soil which fix substantial levels of nitrogen without any direct interaction with other entities.
  2. Examples of such bacteria are species of Bacillus, Azotobacter, Klebsiella, and Clostridium.

Therefore nitrogen-fixing bacteria involve heterotrophic bacteria.
