Solution

In the later Vedic period, new religious ideas like Buddhism and Jainism emerged and gained popularity. This was due to the fact that Vedic Hinduism had become increasingly ritualistic and was unsuited to the lifestyle of the newly emerging cities in India at that time. People in cities, particularly the trading classes, wanted a new and simpler religion. Therefore, they started adopting the new religions of Buddhism and Jainism.
