Open in App
Solution

Ammonia toxicity:

  1. The normal concentrations of ammonia in the blood stream is under 50μmolL-1
  2. The level of ammonia become toxic at 200μmolL-1.
  3. If ammonia is present at these levels, then coma and convulsions can occur.
  4. If ammonia concentration is higher than this level it may lead to death.
  5. Ammonia, after being produced is normally removed from body by liver and kidneys.
  6. High amount of ammonia in blood is known as hyperammonia.
  7. Poor liver function is the major cause of high ammonia levels in humans.

Therefore ammonia concentration greater than 200μmolL-1 is toxic to humans.
