Question

What mass of CaO will be obtained by heating 3moles of CaCo3?

Open in App
Solution

The balanced equation for the decomposition of calcium carbonate is as follows:
CaCO3 ---(heat)----> CaO + CO2
As 1 mole of Caclium carbonate on decomposition yileds only 1 mole of CaO therefore,
10 mole of CaCO3 will also form 10 mole of CaO.
We known,
Number of moles = Mass/ Molar mass
Molar mass of CaO = 56.0 g per mole
Mass of CaO = 56.0 x 10
= 560 g
Hence, 560 g of CaO will be produce on by the decomposition of 10 mol of CaCO3.
