What percent of the total land area of North America is under forest cover?
Forests and other forested ground today cover 850 million (approx) in North America, to some extent more than 40 percent of the total land area. North America represents about 16% of the world's land area and an equal share of the world's forests. The forests are moderately wide-ranging and in some cases, unique. Forest types from each of the boreal, temperate and tropical zones of the world are present. In addition, the region accounts for an important share of the world's coastal temperate rainforest and nearly all of the world's temperate forest that has never been harvested.
